SURFACE PREPERATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

New surfaces – cement plaster, fiber cement and composite boarding

New plaster should be allowed sufficient time to dry, at least a minimum of a week, or longer in colder, wet, or humid weather conditions. Remove flaking or irregular plaster by scraping sanding or use of mortar-lift. Repair any flawed or defected wall. Use Luxe Coatings Solvent/Water based Plaster Primer for an excellent system performance rough surfaces can be filled with filler-coat to create a smooth substrate with less porosity.

Gypsum Plaster (Interior)

• Note: Newly applied Gypsum Plaster often presents variable surface preparations, following style and methods of application, including but not limited to surface hardness, texture and porosity. This can often present variations in application of Luxe Coatings Products.

Ensure that the Gypsum Plaster is sound and non-friable and cured as per the manufacturer’s specifications or directives. The plaster should have cured completely as per manufacture’s specifications. Once the Gypsum Plaster is dry, wiped, and ready for painting, apply one coat of Luxe Coatings Solvent Primer. Gypsum Plaster is often a porous surface, which may result in absorption of the Primer applied. To check against this, wipe a black cloth on the Plaster and if there is white residue on the cloth, apply 1 or 2 more coats of Luxe Coatings Plaster Primer to achieve the correct biding and sealing properties.

Concrete

Remove any loose, flaking, or irregular plaster. Remove any mould, grease and grime with high pressure spray water or sugar soap solution. Allow substrate to dry before priming with one full coat of Luxe Coatings Solvent Primer or Luxe Coatings Plaster Primer for an excellent system performance.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Previously painted surfaces (good condition paintwork)

For surfaces in good conditions – remove all loose and flaking paint to create sound surface. Remove and/or wash-out chalky surfaces, mould, oil, grease, grime, dirt or any other contaminants with a high-pressure water spray or sugar soap and allow to dry before painting. Where necessary, fill surfaces with the necessary filling solution, including poly-filler or the correct plaster mix solution. Spot prime filled or bare and exposed surfaces with Luxe Coatings Solvent Primer or Luxe Coatings Plaster Primer. For an excellent painting system performance, apply one coat of Luxe Coatings Sealant for exterior surfaces, including reveals before applying final coat. Wood and metal need to be smooth sanded and aided with one coat of Luxe Coatings Universal Undercoat for an excellent painting system performance.

Previously painted surfaces (old and poor condition paint work)

Damp or Rising damp will need the attention of Specialist or waterproofing system. Remove all loose and flaking paint. Remove and/or wash-out chalky surfaces, mould, oil, grease, grime, dirt or any other contaminants with a high-pressure water spray or sugar soap and allow to dry. Replace or fill all damaged or imperfect surfaces with appropriate and necessary solution, including plaster mix solution, crack filler, plaster skimming or rhyolite where applicable to even the surface. Spot prime bare exposed or prepared surfaces. For an excellent painting system performance, apply one coat of Luxe Coatings Sealant for exterior surfaces, including reveals before applying final coat.
